SPRING BLOOM

Washington, D.C.

The cherry blossoms in D.C. are always a spectacle. Perched along the Tidal Basin, and framing the D.C. monuments, the pink and white hues capture the perfect spirit of D.C. in spring. Capturing Nature’s art requires patience and timing. The first bloom is one of the most popular times to tour D.C. I knew of the challenge to capture such a scene without the huge crowds. As typical, I scoped out the site days in advance. Once the blooms were at their peak, I ventured out to the site before daybreak to ensure the optimal light, and it was well worth the effort. Most are unaware that ‘Spring Bloom’ is the location of the first cherry trees gifted by Japan.
